The morning I created this piece, fresh snow had just fallen in the East Fjords. The air was still, the fjord perfectly calm, and the old blue boat rested in silence, its reflection untouched by even the smallest ripple. It was my last day in Iceland before the ferry to Denmark — a quiet farewell to the country that had become home.

I lived in the East Fjords for a year and a half, just one mountain pass from Seyðisfjörður — a place I’ve returned to more times than I can count. There’s a special kind of calm here, where color feels softer, time slower, and the mountains seem to hold their breath.

This piece captures a fleeting moment of stillness; a reflection of peace before departure, and of Iceland at its most tender.

Handcrafted with archival pigments on museum-grade cotton paper, each artwork is signed and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Framed with care in London, it preserves the subtle tones and quiet grace of that winter morning.

How I created this artwork

It was November in the East Fjords — the kind of morning when the world seems to move in slow motion. Overnight, fresh snow had fallen, softening every line of the mountains around Seyðisfjörður. I remember stepping outside and realizing that the wind had stopped completely. The fjord was still as glass, reflecting the blue fishing boat that rested quietly against the pier.

I had lived in this part of Iceland for a year and a half — just one mountain pass away — and Seyðisfjörður had become more than a place to me. It was a feeling. A refuge. A town that looked like it belonged to another time. On that day, I was preparing to leave. The ferry to Denmark was waiting later in the evening, but that morning, the world seemed to hold me there a little longer.

The air was sharp and clean. Every sound — a bird’s call, the creak of wood, the distant echo of water — felt magnified. I watched the blue boat and its reflection merge into the calm surface, perfectly still, as if time itself had paused. There was something profoundly peaceful in that moment. A balance between staying and leaving, between silence and memory.

I’ve spent years tracing Iceland’s quietest corners, waiting for moments when the landscape seems to breathe on its own. “Blue Silence of Seyðisfjörður” carries one of those rare instants, where beauty isn’t performed but simply exists, waiting to be noticed.
