Hi! I'm Adam Biernat,

I have been traveling around Iceland since 2014 to capture its serene beauty.

How I created this artwork

North Iceland has a different kind of silence — vast, steady, and heavy with wind. One evening, near the Skjálfandafljót River, I watched the landscape stretch endlessly beneath a muted sky. The river looked ordinary from the ground, dark and quiet, its surface carrying the weight of glaciers far inland.

But from above, everything changed. The current revealed itself as a living pattern — pale mineral veins twisting through volcanic earth, creating shapes that felt less like water and more like breath. I remember feeling suspended between movement and stillness, watching the river write its own story across the land.

I’ve spent more than a decade exploring Iceland’s most remote places, often alone for months at a time — tracing rivers, climbing ridges, waiting for light. Yet this moment was unlike any other. There was no horizon, no distance, only the rhythm of water carving silence into form.

What you see here isn’t just a river. It’s the trace of glaciers, time, and transformation — the language of the island itself. To me, “Dark Currents” captures that rare balance between chaos and calm, between what nature reveals and what it chooses to hide.
