Nestled beneath mist-covered hills in Iceland’s far north, this blue wooden house feels like a fragment of another time — a quiet echo of the herring era that once filled Siglufjörður with life and song.

I lived near this house for six months while working in the town’s Herring Era Museum — not to earn a living, but to soak in the atmosphere of this remote fishing town and understand it more deeply.

Every day, the house seemed to shift with the weather: glowing deep blue beneath the rain, softening into fog, surrounded by violet lupine in early summer. It became a symbol of Iceland’s quiet resilience, where beauty and solitude coexist effortlessly.

When I sign a piece, I think of it as a small promise — that it was made to outlive trends, seasons, and even me. Each artwork is a physical record of care, made from materials chosen not for convenience, but for endurance.

There are places that stay with you long after you’ve left. For me, that place is Iceland. Its quiet has shaped the rhythm of my days and the way I create. My work, featured in Assouline’s Iceland Epic, is my attempt to give that quiet back to the world.

The signature affirms that the piece meets the highest archival and artistic standards.

Museum-Level Detail & Depth

Each piece is printed on archival Hahnemühle Photo Rag — a luxurious, thick, 100% cotton matte paper, prized by galleries and collectors for its softly textured surface and museum-level depth.

Combined with archival 12-color Canon Lucia Pro inks, it captures breathtaking sharpness, rich tones, and natural color that brings the scene to life — whether it's a misty Icelandic fjord or a windswept coastal plain.

The result? Museum-level clarity, subtle gradations, and a sense of presence so real you’ll want to step into the frame.

Framed to Perfection in London

Each piece is framed to order in London using solid wood (black and white frame) or solid pine core with oak veneer (oak frame), glass (small and medium works) or crystal clear 3mm framing-grade acrylic (large and extra large works), and expert craftsmanship.

Your artwork arrives ready to hang, with mounting hardware included and every detail professionally handled.

FRAMING GUIDE

Thoughtfully Framed. Beautifully Finished.

Framed in London Studio

Each artwork is professionally framed in London, where the artwork, glazing, and frame are carefully assembled and finished to ensure a refined, gallery-ready presentation.

The frames themselves are crafted in Germany by Nielsen — a renowned European frame producer known for its precision engineering and exceptional build quality.

This combination of German craftsmanship and London-based finishing results in a frame that feels deliberate, balanced, and beautifully executed.

Real Wood. No Imitations.

All frames are made from real wood — never MDF or imitation materials. The result is a frame that feels solid, natural, and timeless, with subtle grain and character that elevates the artwork rather than distracting from it.

The wood used is FSC®-certified, sourced from responsibly managed forests that meet strict environmental and social standards.

Glass & Acrylic — Chosen by Size

To ensure both clarity and durability, glazing is selected based on artwork size:

Small and medium sizes are framed behind high-quality glass, offering crisp clarity and a classic finish.

Larger sizes are framed behind premium framing acrylic (3mm thick) — lighter, safer, and ideal for substantial works, while preserving excellent visual clarity.

Clean, Modern Presentation (No Mount)

All artworks are framed without a mount, creating a clean, gallery-style, contemporary look that keeps the focus entirely on the image.

A subtle printed border around the artwork provides visual breathing room and balance, resulting in a presentation that feels intentional and modern.

A classic black frame suits almost any interior, while white or oak frames bring a lighter, more contemporary character to a space.

Ready to Hang

Every framed artwork arrives ready to hang, with secure hanging hardware attached to the back of the frame.

No additional preparation needed — just unpack, hang, and enjoy the artwork in your space.

“The frame quality blew me away! Solid, elegant, and beautifully finished.” – Peter F.

How I created this artwork

The air in Siglufjörður — or Sigló, as the locals call it — always carried a faint scent of salt and fish oil — a memory of the herring era that once defined this northern town. I spent six months there, working in the Herring Era Museum, trying to understand the rhythm of this place — its past, its silences, and the people who stayed when the herring was gone.

Not far from where I lived stood this blue wooden house. It caught my eye every morning — perfectly still beneath the mist, surrounded by the soft violet bloom of lupine that rolled down from the mountains. The architecture had a distinctly Norwegian feel, a reminder of the trade and seafaring connections that once tied these fjords to the wider world.

Some days, fog would descend so low that the house seemed to float between sea and sky — isolated, yet oddly alive. I would wait for those moments, when the world grew quiet and even the gulls seemed to hold their breath. That’s when I pressed the shutter.

This artwork became, for me, a portrait of Sigló itself — a place that has learned to live with solitude, to endure, and to find beauty in what remains.
