All artworks are created by me — Adam Biernat, an award-winning fine art photographer. I’ve spent the last decade chasing stillness across Iceland’s most remote corners.

How I created this artwork

Some places feel like they were pulled from a dream — too quiet, too perfect, too otherworldly to be real. Arnarstapi is one of them.

I arrived one September afternoon, during one of my long stays in Iceland. The clouds hung low, clinging to the mountains like a veil. There was no wind, only the hush of the ocean and the distant cries of seabirds circling above the cliffs. The air was cool and salt-tinged, and everything felt… still.

And there it was.

A lone white house with a red roof, perched above the sea. Perfectly still. Perfectly alone. Surrounded by lava-formed cliffs and fields fading into autumn gold, it stood like a lighthouse for the soul — a place of quiet wonder.

I set up my camera and took a deep breath. The scene before me wasn’t just beautiful. It was complete. The contrast of the bright red roof against the dark rock, the soft grass, the brooding cliffs — everything in harmony, everything in balance.

There’s a kind of Icelandic magic here. A feeling that time has slowed. That this house has always been here, waiting.

This artwork captures that moment of stillness — that rare feeling of being far away from everything, yet exactly where you’re meant to be. Collectors tell me they find themselves returning to it again and again, as if it holds a secret they can almost remember.
